They don't take reservations, but you can call, put your name on the wait list, and they'll call you back when they're setting up your table. Nice.

there are a couple of places within a few blocks where you can have a drink while you wait for your table - Madrone Art Bar on Divis at Fell and Corkage on Broderick at Divs.

What's NOT to love about Nopalito? Love that everything is super fresh. Love that it feels like there is a surprise twist to every dish. Love the popsicle desserts. And really love it that no dish breaks $20!

A must do is the Totopos con Chile. Who needs chips and salsa when you can get this completely new twist on a super savory dish to kick off your appetite. Follow that with a big steaming bowl of Caldo Tlalpeno - vegetables in chicken broth with a chile pepper that gets hotter the longer you leave it in. It sounds boring, but it is probably the best bowl of soup I've had in a long time.

I go there about once a week for lunch and love ordering the Totopos (not your every day version of nachos) and the Caldo Tlalpeño (a light chicken soup with avocado, vegetables, cotija cheese and served with warm corn tortillas.

Also their Bloody Maria is the best I've had anywhere! It's made with tequila instead of vodka and Nopalito's own home-made tomato juice/spice blend.
