Hidden gem of a neighborhood restaurant serving traditional Sardinian fare (for the geography-challenged, it's an island off of Italy). So, being island fare, it's seafood focused and you can't go wrong with any of the fish dishes or pasta with fish. I think it's run by a husband-wife team, and you definitely get that family-owned level of care. Interior is very basic, not cool or hip or beautifual, but the atmosphere is always lively. Be forwarned, it's a popular place and not that many tables, so walk in can be dicey during peak hours (though we've been seated promptly at peak times).
I love La Ciccia. I take long-time friends and San Francisco newbies here alike. It's such a bitty gem of a place where husband-wife team Lorella & Massimo make you feel like you're in their (very classy) living room.
Everything I've ever tried, I've loved. Be sure to ask about their specials— there are some great seasonal treasures to be had. Recently, I had an incredible pork pasta dish off the specials menu (which they lovingly accommodated for this lactose intolerant gal)...
The wine list is in 8 pt. font for a reason — it's huge! Lorella can make some wonderful recommendations, and their Food and Wine magazine awards tell the story better than I ever could. That said, start with a glass of bubbly and get on out to Outer Noe.
