All are fiercely local, fantastically cooked, and fun places to be of a weeknight.

Some of the best Italian dishes in the city, made with local ingredients, and the interior is chic and comfortable to dine in.
Lots of great restaurants, but Zuni is perfect - food great, pure californian, not trendy. Hip and sophisticated. My fav. restaurant of the year is Flour and Water - but very hard to get into. 2nd choice would be Out-The-Door, or Slanted Door. Unique, clean, cant be foundin other cities....
Been around 125 years and is a San Francisco classic with real traditional Northern Italian cuisine in the historic San Remo Hotel. The Ossobucco and Scalipinni dishes are to die for. I think all the pastas are made in house. Try the pumpkin one.
Can't guarantee resos will be available for any of these but maybe worth a try: House of Prime Rib is old school SF; Tadich Grill would fit that bill as well - can't vouch for recent quality; Baker & Banker is in a non-touristy neighborhood and the food is amazing; Thanh Long would be SF with an Asian twist and you would get in season dungeness (very SF).
