I've moved to an office at Bryant & 16th and am always looking for reasonable lunch options, since I can't eat at the El Tonayense truck everyday. (Well, I can but....) Starstream is inspired and delicious but I need some other options. Any thoughts? I'd prefer it to be in walking distance.

El MetateAdd this place

A bit farther, but definitely walkable. They have different stuff than your typical burrito joint. I like their steak and potatoes in chile colorado. They also have homemade mole sometimes as a special.

Tried this place but I think I ordered wrong. Thx for the recommendation (and the others!) - I think that I'll try again!

That place is GOLD. It's all about the chile colorado, and fish tacos. Did I mention the chile colorado?
Athena0417 Tue 22 Feb 2011 03:28:26 GMT
Okay, okay, I'll try again!

Coffee BarAdd this place

I'd be there a lot (good coffee, sandwiches, evil treats)--especially with all those cute worker types with their Macs.

I love this cafe that is in front of Saison. Their Twitter feed always announces tasty specials.

sho Tue 22 Feb 2011 03:14:08 GMT
BTW, their quinoa salad is surprisingly good if you're feeling like eating something that is aggressively healthy-tasting.

Thanks. I love Saison and pass this place on the way to work and never think to go for lunch. I'll definitely try it.

Yeah, two thumbs up on stable. Nice outdoor umbrella tables for a sunny day too.

Slow ClubAdd this place

Probably not where you want to go every day, but good if you want to take a slightly longer than usual lunch. They do a great burger, and they have more upscale options + full bar if you have the type of job where you need to go for client lunches.

This is a solid Vietnamese place with outdoor seating for those rare warm days. Nothing fancy, but solid.

Athena0417 Tue 22 Feb 2011 03:26:35 GMT
good to know - I wasn't sure from the looks of it.....I love Vietnamese.
sho Tue 22 Feb 2011 03:28:10 GMT
And just to qualify my previous answer... This is definitely not one of these places that I would call a top bowl of pho or anything. It's just a clean, good, neighborhood joint. (and yes, it looks kind of scary from the outside!)
tablehopper Tue 22 Feb 2011 03:29:57 GMT
My friends order delivery from them a fair amount.

Agree - Plow is amazing but definitely not walking distance from my office!

Oh so true! Sorry to have let my eyes skim right over "16th&Bryant". I too want to hear about the Flying Pig....

You can never go wrong with Papalote Mexican Grill on 24th & Valencia. They have great burritos and you will always leave full. If you are still having trouble finding places to eat on the mission try going to a GrubCrawl. You get to try a dish from three different restaurants in one night, that way next time you will be able to narrow down your choices by cravings at lunch time.

If you want more information on grubcrawl, check out www.grubcrawl.com

Bon Appetit!

by the way, the map is showing papalote 2, the one closer to you is in 24th and valencia like i mentioned above.
Athena0417 Wed 23 Feb 2011 00:33:32 GMT
Thanks - I love Papalote and that's a great reminder that I haven't been in a while. Unfortunately, it's much too far to walk there from 16th & Bryant, but maybe I'll pick up dinner on the drive home tonight! Yum.
Hexone Wed 23 Feb 2011 00:46:58 GMT
Glad I could at least help you with your dinner tonight :D

They have great lunch deals here and you can eat like a Sultan (kabab, rice, salad and soup) for about the same price as a sandwich from Pal's or Kitchenette .

pattycakes Tue 22 Feb 2011 23:47:23 GMT
Sorry, just realized it isn't that walkable.......oh well, if you're feeling adventurous (or flush) grab a cab and go!
artybee Wed 23 Feb 2011 04:50:01 GMT
It's walkable if you're on Potrero, and worth the walk. Love the food there, and the waiters are sexy!

Saint Francis FountainAdd this place

I've never had a bad meal at the Fountain. Hearty food, classic diner style but really, really well done. You're right about Star Stream, it's another stellar option, too!

Flying Pig BistroAdd this place

While I'm thinking of it, this place opened on S Van Ness and 15th not too long ago... I am curious about trying their cabbage rolls (which I love).

Athena0417 Tue 22 Feb 2011 03:50:51 GMT
ooohhh. totally going to see if I can get my friend (and fellow deep disher), Mark, to go there with me tomorrow!
tablehopper Tue 22 Feb 2011 03:54:24 GMT
Excellent--I look forward to your recon! :)
