I know there are good places in the South Bay and Oakland, but I'm curious about your favorite place within city limits.

Ton KiangAdd this place

Love, love, love this place - the food is amazing, staff is friendly and it's SOO reasonably priced.

A big bonus about Ton Kiang--they deliver. I just re-steam the dim sum once it arrives so it's piping hot. Dim sum for dinner at home while writing my column is a mighty fine thing. Hmmm, might have to order some tonight!

Here is an answer to my own question (weird, right?). My current favorite right now is Hong Kong Lounge on Geary. I was really skeptical because the name of the place is obviously a ripoff of Hong Kong Flower Lounge, which used to be at this location, but the food is good.

Any other places I should be going to?

That place rules. I had my birthday banquet dinner there--amazing Peking duck.

Also agree that this has become my most recent favorite. Great dishes (my favorite are the fried taro puff dumplings -- best in the city) and they have all the standards you'd expect. wait on weekends can be long, but just pop in to McKenzie's next door for a quick pre-dimsum drink (tell the hostess you'll be next door after you get your number).

I love this place--thanks to a chef buddy for turning me on to it. Super-fresh shrimp, so don't miss the shrimp noodle roll! You will feast, yes, feast for $20. No carts, so it comes out of the kitchen piping hot.

And you can get dumplings to go from the little shop/window adjacent to the restaurant.

Any resto recommended by TH is one that goes on my list. And I'm a sucker for Dim Sum. I've been a House of Banquet fan for a while for the cheepy, cheapy but will definitely give this a try.

Thanks for the nice words--be sure to check out my review on the 'hopper for what to get!

I went here for the first time thanks to TH--and have been back may times. The best in the city by far.

I'd say the best TAKE-OUT dim sum is hands down Good Luck Dim Sum. Super cheap, line moves reasonably fast (even though its almost always long), and the dim sum is as good or better as any you'll get from a sit-down place. Don't expect super friendly service, just order and keep moving! BBQ pork buns, haw gow, siu mai, chive dumpling w/ shrimp, deep fried taro root, and sweet rice with chicken. All awesome!

Be sure and spring for the fancy tea. The waitress does a little tea ceremony at your table.  Fight the urge to grab your little cup untill she's completely done.  Then order some Dim Sum and eat drink.  As good as any DS in the city, and a bargain. OH, if you're hungry, get a bowl of jook.  Since it's only about $5.00, the first time I ordered it, I was expecting a nice little soup bowl full, but no, you get a giant tureen, enough for 4-5 people, and it's delicious!

I wanna try the fancy tea!

Is this supposed to be South Sea Seafood Village in the Inner Sunset?

I am guessing so...! http://www.southseaseafoodvillage.com/

That's the place! Go for dinner or lunch too. I love the food, and the staff is really nice and helpful. The waitresses wear little pink fake-fur stoles, like Zippy the Pinhead.
