It's been so cold, and I'm craving ramen! In my experience, the line at Katana-Ya is usually really long at dinner time. Are there other special bowls of ramen in San Francisco? Do I have to go to San Mateo or San Jose for a truly great bowl of ramen?

I had such a good bowl of ramen here last week! Didn't expect it, to be honest. I mean, come on, in the Marina! Deep, rich, tonkotsu broth. The spicy version was also really, really good.

Hapa Ramen (Ferry Building: Tuesday and Thursdays) and pop-ups at other locations. My fave is the Big Daddy: fried chicken, pork belly and seasonal veggies. Vegetarian also available. Follow @haparamen on Twitter for updates. Hapa Ramen also sells take-home ramen kits :)

I used to love tanpopo and still miss it.  I just wish their health score would pick up. I actually really like Suzu, too.

I like Tanpopo in Japantown.  I always get the miso of kara-miso flavor (can't vouch for the other flavors).  It has a basic authentic offering at a similar quality level to Katana-ya.  Ramen Dojo (tonkotsu flavor) in San Mateo is better though...
